Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen ：
We have not met before, so I'd like to introduce myself first. I am Sun Zhijian, a graduate student from Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Today I am very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of 2008.
When 2008 is mentioned, 29 th Olympic game comes to everyone's mind. Yes, we, Chinese are all proud of it. We have so much to say about it. However, what I want to talk here is not about the Sports Olympic Games but another Olympic game in Mineral Processing—The IMPC—the International Mineral Processing Congress which will be held in Beijing in 2008.
What is mineral processing? Mineral processing is like the finger of God which can change ores into gold but more than that. It can also turn living garbage and industry waste into valuable things. It is no exaggeration that mineral processing, which is engaged in offering resources for upstream industries, is the blood of national economy and social development.
As the most influential event with the widest attendance in mineral processing industry, IMPC is no wonder compared to the Olympic Game in the specific field. As a grand gathering of government officials, experts, scholars as well as the people intensely interested in mineral processing, IMPC is aimed at strengthening communication, deepening cooperation and promoting common development.
Now the global mining industry is experiencing a booming period while the price of metal commodities soars in a way surprising everyone around the world. How long will it last and which direction will it go? And now our country is facing the common challenges such as resources, environment, development and sustainability. All these subject will be discussed in the conference. So 2008 IMPC does not only concerns the mining industry but also the harmonious development of the whole world.
2008 IMPC will be remembered as the first conference of this series held in Asia . . It is of far-reaching significance and clearly shows the efforts and technological achievements Chinese professionals have made in last decades are widely acknowledged by the world.
I am proud to say, as one of the host institutions of 2008 IMPC, Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy is actively participating in the organization work. We have every reason to believe 2008 IMPC will be a constructive and successful conference.
2008 is a normal but also a special year for Beijing , for China . Let's show to the world!
